Leadership You Can Trust

M-B Abdussalaam leads Architectural Technology Solutions LLC with a builder’s practicality and an owner’s discipline. He fell in love with engineering early, started a family, and then returned to school to pursue civil engineering, working days as an engineering technician while earning his associate’s degree at Central Virginia Community College (CVCC). That demanding path forged habits that still define his leadership: plan precisely, document clearly, respect the field, and never lose sight of safety.

After graduating from CVCC, M-B joined the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Research Division in Charlottesville on the University of Virginia campus. Splitting time between the lab and the field, he gained hands-on depth in geotechnical, concrete, structural, and bridge inspection, learning under the tutelage of H. Celik Ozylidrium Ph.D, PE, Shabbair Hossein Ph.D, PE , and Jose Gomez Ph.D, PE. Testing, failure analysis, and inspection protocols from that period shaped the way he leads today; evidence first, constructability always, and traceability in every step.

Following his bachelor’s degree, he joined HII / Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) as a Structural Engineer on the Columbia-class submarine program. There he delivered end-to-end design packages using finite element analysis (FEA) and modern digital toolchains, balancing tight technical, schedule, configuration, and compliance constraints. He authored and peer-checked engineering design reports, managed multiple disclosures/change packages, and worked cross-functionally with design, analysis, manufacturing, quality, and program teams to move designs from concept through release and into production. That experience reinforced configuration discipline, design-for-manufacture, and the clear communication required when each stakeholder defines “risk” differently.

M-B then entered federal service as a Structural/Civil Engineer and Project Manager, delivering multi-million-dollar capital projects from planning and design through construction, commissioning, and closeout. In live, mission-critical environments, he orchestrated outages and logistics so operations continued safely; aligned multidisciplinary design teams; drove QA/QC; and ran disciplined project controls-baselined schedules and budgets, earned-value checks, decision logs, and transparent reporting leadership could trust. He managed RFP/SOW development, submittals, RFIs, pay applications, and closeout documentation, ensuring the administrative backbone matched the rigor of the technical work. Most importantly, he protected scope, schedule, budget, and safety without sacrificing quality.

Today, through Architectural Technology Solutions LLC, M-B brings that standard to owners across federal, state, municipal, and private sectors. ATS provides Engineering, Project & Construction Management, Owner’s Representation, Estimating, Design/Structural Analysis, Plan Review, Federal Contracting, and GC services with clarity and accountability. Clients value his ability to make the complex legible and buildable: tight statements of work, early constructability, disciplined change, measurable QA/QC, and turnover packages that stand on their own.

Bottom line: From technician and researcher to submarine designer to senior public-sector project leader, M-B offers a rare blend of hands-on empathy and program-level discipline. Under his direction, ATS delivers work that is on scope, on schedule, on budget, and safe, with documentation that stands up in the field and in the audit.
